Microsoft Reveal Another Free Game For Xbox Gold

In direct response to the fantastic deals available with the Playstation Plus subscription, Microsoft have said that they will give away free games to Xbox Gold subscribers too.

The latest game has been announced, one of two available this month: Defense Grid: the Awakening. Although not a bad title at all, it rather pales in comparison to Sony's offerings...

I'll be honest, I do rather like Defense Grid, it's a very enjoyable tower defense game with an interesting storyline. Having said that, the game is four and a half years old - so old that the sequel will be with us next year, even after several DLC's were released for the base game.

The game is often on sale for PC, and even at full price isn't terribly expensive; only 800 MS points, or around £6.80. All this is just begging the comparison against the Playstation Plus subscription, which this month includes fresh, strong titles like XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Uncharted 3.

In total, Playstation Plus subscribers can get 13 games this month, four of which are for the PS Vita. Microsoft isn't just making a mistake however; they have also promised us Assassins Creed 2 (3 years old) and Halo 3 (6 years old) as free games on their new service - aren't we lucky!

What do you think, are these games still worth getting free after so long? Or should Microsoft really try and match what Sony are offering? Tell us below!

Playstation Plus is giving gamers Battlefield 3, Payday The Heist, Saint’s Row The Third, Unit 13 and Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus in Europe this month.
I'm geniunely not trying to troll or rub people the wrong way but I don't think I need to point that out.
These services cost almost the same amount of money.

Plus North America's getting Battlefield 3, Metal Slug XX, Jet Set Radio PS3, Dokuro, and Oddworld: Munch's Odyssee HD, so on either side of the fence Plus is a better offer.

I'm sure everybody has Halo 3 already, Microsoft. Wouldn't Halo 4 or Assassin's Creed 3 for free be better choices? Amazing how many weak-minded lemmings suck the teats of Microsoft while being siphoned out of their allowances. It's almost like they are trolling when they declare their love for the House That Bill Gates Built.

well, where to start, I agree, Defense Grid's not a bad game, I rather like it, but yeah, when compared to Sony's lineup, Microsoft is screwed, although I'll be honest, at least they're giving away Assassin's Creed II, people have been begging Sony of America to release at least one of the AC games free on Plus, and we haven't gotten one yet. I own all of them, so it doesn't bother me, but at least MS has a little sense left in them.

The reason that MS have charged for Xbox live is because they have so many servers to upkeep and it costs a lot to run even 100 servers but 150,000 is a ton of money, so them charging only £40 a year isn't that bad if you think about all of the costs for the servers.

What is wrong with you people? These are incentives. They want you to pay for Xbox Gold, just like Sony want you to pay for PlayStation Plus. It's the same ****ing thing. Do you like the games on offer and intend to buy an Xbox One? Good for you, pay for the Xbox Gold. Do you like the games on offer and intend to buy a PlayStation 4? Brilliant, get PlayStation Plus. How is any of this a trick? Stop acting like the PlayStation 4 release is the second coming of Jesus.

but even if u live under a rock, the PS4 is the second coming of Jesus if it is put side by side with the release of Xbox One(ever heard of Einstein?)

No it doesn't get 'cut'. What the hell are you talking about? I'm not talking about what 'pays off' for you as a consumer. The Xbox Gold free games are not a 'trick' they are an incentive. Incentives are hardly 'tricks'. If the game is old and that bothers you, get PlayStation Plus. If not, ****ing A, buy Xbox Gold. Not a trick. Also, I'm positive you don't understand Einstein's work if you think it applies here. Even if we disregard that the PlayStation 4 incentives are hardly enough to justify calling the PlayStation 4 the 'second coming of Jesus'.

woah dude, i was polite till now but now u have really riled me up
Einstein did publish a theory called the Theory of Relativity(ever heard of it, i dont think u have) that also dictates how the economy and thus the corporations react to one another. So MS is as is apparent being relatively ****ed by Sony's incentives(dont think YOU knew that). Now looking at it from a consumers point of view who is looking to buy a console, the Sony's "incentives" are much better than what MS are offering any day. So anyone who likes XLive Gold after this is rather stupid.
Plus the issue being discussed here is not about the consoles but rather the Online subscription being offered for the consoles, so the point of "PS4 as the second coming of Jesus" is rather out of topic.

You think relativity altogether was a foreign concept to humanity before Einstein published his paper? Wow. You do understand, right, that both word and concept were well in use before Einstein, right? Also, and once more I stress this point - do you like these incentives? Buy Xbox Gold. It's as simple as that. If you feel you're better off buying an Xbox One, go for it; you're just being a condescending, judgmental bigot if you can't live with that and I'm not impressed with this boring 'principled consumer' non-sense.

also i am not really talking about the word "relative" but rather how theory of relativity defines economics. Logically MS shud have offered better games, firstly because it is apparent that these incentives are a direct copy of the ones offered by Sony and secondly due to the mass disliking they had.
Also the point i have been trying to make is that why would anyone like the incentives MS is giving when you can get better incentives on the PS Plus thing

Your ignorance amuses me. We all know Sony is the paragon of good business practices (as evidenced by their history, of course) and relativity didn't exist before Einstein. Also, according to you PlayStation 4 is (relative to the Xbox One) the second coming of Jesus. For doing NOTHING at all to earn the consumer's trust. You know the world is ****ed when you applaud people for NOT screwing you over.

No, the theory of relativity does not define economics. At all. Not even remotely. Neither does it make PlayStation 4 the second coming of Jesus (which you've claimed in a previous comment). Just stop talking about the theory of relativity. Also, what incentives are 'better' is not for you to decide, it's for the consumer. And you don't get to insult anyone for it.

Yeah, but that isn't Einstein's work. That's just plain old 'relativity'. Everything is relative to everything and everything can be made relative to something. It doesn't take Einstein to figure it out. Still doesn't make PlayStation 4 the second coming of Jesus, though.
