Rumor: AMD Steamroller Engineering Sample Spotted

Written by Shivam Kumar on Mon, Jul 8, 2013 1:45 PM

AMD has been very prolific in the past few months, releasing loads of APUs and processors, many  finding their niche in the market.

The WCCF Tech has found an entry in a database for bionic research - not the sort of place you expect to find details of an engineering sample of the upcoming Steamroller line of processors...

They have spotted an ES code of 2M186092H4467_23/18/12/05_1304, which is the ES code of an upcoming Steamroller APU, according to them. This probably means nothing to most people, but you can get some info from it.

The four middle numbers (23/18/12/05) may stand for clock speeds. The "23" suggests us that the processor has a turbo frequency of 2.3GHz. The next information that we get from "18" is that the APU has a base clock of 1.8GHz. As per the main document, it is doubtful about "12", though it may point towards a 1.2GHz North Bridge clock. The last two digits, "05", may be the GPU clock rate. After all these we are left with the "1304", which is assumed to be the AMD1304.1 = “KV SPECTRE MOBILE 35W", which is the graphics portion of the APU that was found in some drivers a few weeks ago.

All the information above is guesswork.

Having said that, this information has come from some fairly knowledgeable people, so these are at least educated guesses.

What do you think, are these APU's ready for their reveal, which should happen later this year? Will they manage to take back the overwhelming advantage some think Intel have at the moment? Tell us below!

I really wish Steamroller would steamroll Intel (i5 at least) but we all know that's not going to happen

That depends, if they make an apu with integrated gpu's as powerful as a radeon 7870 that would be awesome

Yeah that would be awesome and I think it will be possible for consoles but I don't think it is something they will try for PC especially with so much choice of dedicated graphics cards available.
