Betrayal, backstabbing, spies and ambushes; this is why EVE online is the game that it is.

Recently, a trap was laid to catch and kill a large number of Capital ships, only to find an even bigger prize in the group...

The Revenant supercarrier is a Pirate faction 'mothership', capable of providing field repairs and housing swarms of fighters. The ship isn't actually more valuable due to being any better than other ships, it's just stunningly hard to find a blueprint to make one. Since you can easily get blueprints of other ships that are just as good, there are very few in the game, causing them to be highly valued among collectors.

The Revenant was instantly focused down and killed after jumping into the trap, and now has the dubious honor of being the first of its kind to ever die in combat. Since there is the ability to purchase items with real world cash to sell in game, we can roughly value the loss; putting it at over $9000!

Spies are a permanent worry in many of the better known player alliances, but many people (our instigator included) just want to make a bang in the world. Even without the Revenant kill, the total loss would have been a substantial bit of news. In total, 10 supercarriers were killed out of the 15 in the gang.

What do you guys think of this loss, would you like to see more like it? Can you imagine losing such an incredibly rare ship? Tell us below!

I would have hated to be the owner of that ship, due to its rarity, and it's value overall. This is why I don't want to get into EVE, I would not want to be the guy who got a very expensive, valuable ship after hours and hours of labor, only to lose it in an instant like this.

A video of the event (at least I think it is): youtube(.)com/watch?v=K7h_46zO5YI I'm starting to see why people pay for this game. The fight looks epic.

$9000, and I think thats just how much the ship and resources lost were worth.

I don't play Eve so I don't know much about it, but what I assume they mean is that you CAN buy items with real money, but you can also earn them. What I think the article is saying is that if you were to buy the items that were lost, it would've cost over 9000.

I don't play it either but I also think that's what the article is saying, although the value of the lost ship was partially due to its rarity and not just the cost of production.

Ah, I see.
I guess that would've been a bit too extreme indeed ;)
