Rockstar is the developer behind two very highly regarded games; GTA V and Max Payne 3. After the success of Max Payne, Rockstar are clearly taking lessons on how to make GTA V better.
One area that you can clearly see the similarities is in the gun combat, in which we can spot the shared heritage of the games...
Both games were made with the RAGE engine, which is Rockstar's own in-house engine specifically for their games. You can definitely tell - the combat looks identical, although some tweaks and improvements have naturally been made. Take a look at the video below for a demonstration:
As you saw, the video had to be re-created as near as possible in Max Payne 3, as there is only a limited amount of gameplay footage for GTA V at the moment. Here's a summary of the findings:
"Franklin's crouched-walk approach to the car is much faster than MP3, it's a little hard to tell here because the MP3 character presses the cover button from further away which smoothly automates to the car. This "fast crouch" was present in both Episodes From Liberty City and Red Dead Redemption, but not GTA IV."
"When Franklin is walking toward the building while firing from the hip, he is walking a bit slower than the MP3 character, but when he brings the gun up to his shoulder on the 5th and 6th targets, the walking speeds seem the same."
"The GTA V camera has been backed away from the character a bit so that you can see more of your surroundings at once."
So, do you guys think the comparison was fair? Are you surprised the games combat is so similar, or is it a good thing? Tell us below!
