If you want to choose your own magnificent beard and charge into a melee brawl with your axes flying, we're pretty sure you're going to love the just-announced War of the Vikings.

The sequel to War of the Roses, this teased game once more gives you a historically accurate fighting arena, where you can choose to save or pillage the shores of Briton...

War Of The Vikings System Requirements Alpha

Playing as either the Saxons or the Vikings, you have to engage in harsh brawls for territory, using a wide range of realistic weapons and armours - from throwing axes and javelins to a sturdy battleaxe.

Customise your warrior, from your beard to your hat, or even your heraldry; all of it will make you stand out on the battlefield, the better to scare your enemy! Of course, if you're interested in the game and want to try the Alpha version, you'll have to meet the War of the Vikings System Requirements:

War Of The Vikings Minimum System Requirements

OS: Windows Vista 64bit

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz or AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core 4800+

RAM: 4GB System Memory

GPU RAM: 512MB Graphics Memory

GPU: GeForce 440 GT or ATI Radeon HD 5670

DX: DirectX 11

HDD: 5 GB Free Hard Drive Space

War Of The Vikings Recommended System Requirements

OS: Windows 7 64bit

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6400 2.13GHz or AMD Phenom 9600 Quad-Core

RAM: 4GB System Memory

GPU: GeForce GTX 460 Ti or ATI Radeon HD 5870

DX: DirectX 11

The requirements are fairly reasonable all in all, although the 4GB of RAM in the minimums will probably be lowered in the future as a little more optimisation is done. As with any Alpha requirements, these could change at any point, but they seem fairly close to the mark.

War of the Vikings is set to release in Q1 2014, and they've released a trailer along with the game's announcement.

If everything you've seen so far tickles your fancy, head on over to sign up for the alpha here.

So, Vikings it is then! Lots of mead, mythology, and burly men throwing axes at your head. What about those Saxons though, they weren't just layabouts either! Give us your votes and your comments below!
