Gamescom is an important event for Sony. Being Europe's biggest gaming trade fair - a market which Sony dominates - this was going to be a big. And for the most part, Sony did not disappoint.

This being the year of next-gen consoles, the hype train was already racing. Sony's PlayStation 4 has garnered huge, positive response from gamers and critics alike, but they wanted more...

The event starts off after a little delay, with Shuhei Yoshida premiering the new PlayStation 4 UI interface. At first glance, it looked very catchy and certainly a country mile ahead of PS3. On the big screen, we the player navigate the PS4's dashboard, have a look at trailers of upcoming games - all flowing smoothly. Then we see him jump into a friend's Killzone online match - and again, directly from the dashboard. Smooth.

It was smart to start the conference with something people haven't seen before, or much of. Personally, even if you weren't impressed with the UI (very unlikely), how can you not like Mr Yoshida? Yep, a very good start!

After that, Sony put the spotlight on the old workhorse, PlayStation 3. They revealed how the PS3 is still going strong and how they plan to support it going into the future. Referring to The Last of Us granted weight to their previous statement. Then there's Beyond: Two Souls and Gran Turismo 6. Two AAA blockbuster games yet to launch on the PS3.

Speaking of the latter, Sony finally announced its release date. GT6 launches for the PS3 on December 6, 2013. That got a loud response from the audience and rightly so, because what they were going to hear next was a surprise. Sony is making full length feature film inspired by Gran Turismo! About the game itself, a preview trailer was shown that did just one thing, amp us up for its release.

This next game was a surprise reveal, sorta. Sony announced LittleBigPlanet Hub with a trailer, which is a F2P PS3 title. Not a sequel but a spin-off. Hub will offer "unrestricted access" to LBP's Create Mode, along with 16 levels from previous games. The game will offer a robust online play, allowing challenges, creating levels etc with friends.

That's not all, the game will regularly receive levels created by the community along with new challenges and will open "a whole new way to play LittleBigPlanet." It's not the next level, but for a free title, you cannot question the value it (promises) to deliver. Plus Sackboy is still damn cute.

Sony also revealed that a sweet GTA 5 deal. If you pre-order the game from PSN, you will receive 75% off of any Rockstar title in get in the future. So more goodies this side of the fence..

That was all about the PS3. Next up for the PlayStation Vita.

Sony's powerful little machine has found itself in a little predicament. It's the most powerful handheld ever produced, has intuitive control schemes and looks gorgeous, but for one reason it has not rocketed to success like the PSP. It's catalogue of games, even with 900+ titles, isn't anywhere close to the standard that we were promised the Vita would deliver. The Wii U is in the same boat as the Vita; interesting tech, but no software support...

Sony now has a chance to change it's fortunes. They start up with the indie support that Vita is going to receive, and by god, is it plenty! Before that, they mention Vita's two blockbuster titles coming over the next few months, Killzone Mercenary and Tearaway. These two games are going to make a lot of splash this fall.

Here's the list of exclusive games announced for the Vita (PS4 and PS3) via Trailers. And rather than reading, watch the trailers for yourself and make your own judgement. What I know is that you will definitely enjoy these offerings:

- Murasaki Baby

- Everybody's Gone to the Rapture

- Helldivers

- Resogun

- Velocity 2X

- Kick and Fennick

- Fez

- Gunslugs

All excellent looking games just for the Vita. Granted it's not by a top notch developer, but that's besides the point. These new games are actually more interesting and refreshing that anything the big studios would have revealed - from a personal point of view. That's the power of Indie.

Sony again stressed on the importance of cross-play on Vita and PS4 via Remote Play. That feature is going to be game-changing and Sony is really rallying behind this.

But the biggest Vita announcement was arguably it's price reduction. Yes, you heard it right. Sony dropped the Vita's price to $199 and also promised significant reduction in prices of it's memory cards. That really cheered the crowd up.

But wait, there's more. Sony also reduced the prices of the PS3 12 GB kit to $199 as well. That is really going to make this 8-year old hardware an appealing prospect come Christmas.

After that interlude, it was back to the PlayStation 4. Sony's next-gen console that will power the future of gaming.

Sony showed off the games it revealed back at E3. They look just as spectacular as they did back then but this is Gamescom and we need to feast our eyes on something new. Enter the Indie revolution. To our surprise, they were no reveals from any of Sony's first-party studio. No Naughty Dog, no Santa Monica, no nobody. So with no AAA titles at the show, it was the indies that helped push the system through.

Apart from the aforementioned titles, here are some of the other PS4 titles:

- Hotline Miami 2

- N++

- Shadow of the Beast

- Volume

They actually got a very positive response from the crowd and that was heart-warming. Indies are here fellas.

Sony then spoke about the intriguing The Playroom. This EyeToy game comes pre-installed on your PS4s so you can jump right in. In the trailer that followed, this little 'app' can be the catalyst to a lot of fun times ahead. Especially with your loved ones. Looks lovely.

Third-party support for the PS4 is very strong. Ubisoft is leading the charge here with next-gen version of both Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and Watch Dogs, with both providing exclusive content for the Sony's platforms. This comes as a response to EA's close relationship with the Xbox platform.

Devs even demoed the Remote Play feature of AC4: Black Flag on-screen. When the game transitioned from the PS4 to PS Vita, it was natural. Even the control schemes change to take advantage of Vita's strengths. Sony promises this cross-play feature will be possible for most of the games. That's music to the ears of PS Vita owners. It seems the drought of games is almost over.

But wait, did I mention Gearbox's Borderlands 2 is coming to Vita? Oh yeah! One of last year's most celebrated games is finally making it's way onto the handheld. Exciting, right?

So, am I done? Nope. To send off the crowd with some good news, Sony revealed Minecraft for the PS4 and PS Vita! Yes, the craze of Minecraft is about to devour Sony as well.

And now for the announcement everyone of eagerly awaiting, Sony announced that PlayStation will release on November 15, 2013 for the United States and November 29, 2013 for everyone in Europe. So mark that in your calenders everyone.

So this was it from the Sony's conference. With less of new, and more of different, Sony managed to keep their momentum running at full speed. Sony will let gamers get their hands on PS4 in the coming days. Their booth is sure to garner lots and lots of crowds and it'l be a crazy fiesta this Gamescom!

Did you like Sony's offerings this Gamescom?

Some nice juicy content right there, just what I like to see from Sony, and as usual, they haven't disappointed. GT6 looks fantastic, great Rockstar deal, and that UI... Great stuff Sony, can't wait.
