Metro: Last Light’s second piece of DLC has been dated. 'The Tower Pack’ will arrive on 3rd September on Steam, PSN and Xbox Live. EU Playstation users will have to wait another day.
The DLC will be priced at £3.99/$4.99, or £11.99 for the season pass, and is a wave-based challenge mode that sees you ascending a giant tower in a virtual reality combat simulator...
Hot on the heels of Bioshock Infinite’s ‘Clash in the Clouds’ DLC, it comes armed with high-score leaderboards so you can finally put that copy of Tetris down when your friends come around. Only a horde of mutants stand between you and dystopian glory.
Developer 4A Games acknowledged that the gunplay in Metro 2033 was lacklustre and took steps to overhaul it for Last Light. Unfortunately, due to the game’s often heavy emphasis on stealth and survival, players couldn't get a handle on the combat mechanics. A horde mode will definitely put paid to that.
Publisher Deep Silver said in a blog update:
“For what is supposedly (at least by genre definition) a first person shooter, you might be surprised how little actual gunplay there is in the game. There are only a few levels dedicated to combat, and most offer a completely non-lethal stealth based alternative to the player.
“We wanted to create some DLC that took advantage of these new, refined combat mechanics, that allowed players to explore the system in more depth – and so the Tower Pack was born.”
4A Games and Deep Silver have plans for two more expansions; ‘The Developer Pack’ featuring a shooting gallery and story-based mission, ‘The Spider’s Nest’; as well as a fully story-based DLC entitled 'The Chronicles Pack' containing three missions, each focusing on a different side-character.
