Mega Man fans rejoice! Sort of.

Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune has a launched a Kickstarter, for a new game that is Mega Man in all but name...

Mighty No. 9 is about, you guessed it, a blue robot. It will be a retro-styled action platformer that will allow you to decide in which order to tackle the game’s bosses, letting you absorb your conquered foes powers. So far, so Mega Man.

The side-scrolling shooter features a robot named Beck, battling to destroy a computer virus that has infected eight of his predecessors. Beck's predecessors form the game's bosses and once destroyed give you transformation powers such as turning into a giant hammer or having limbs turn to magnets.

Transformers! Mega Man in disguise.

The Kickstarter went up yesterday and it has already reached its $900,000 goal with 29 days to spare, so it’s now a confirmed pc release. There is a stretch goal of $1.35 million for Mac and Linux, while $2.5 million will be enough to guarantee release for PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U.

At this rate Inafune is going to need to dream up some more stretch goals...

The estimated release for this title is Spring 2015, so you may have a little bit of a wait on your hands. It's probably best to get training for the inevitably infuriatingly difficult game to come.

Does this scratch your Mega Man itch after Capcom has put the series on the backburner? Or would you prefer the 'Blue Bomber' himself?

I saw if you back it with $10k you get Dinner and Drinks with Keiji Inafune himself, but it doesn't pay for air fare to Japan or Hotels and stuff like that.

Capcom won't make any more, Capcom stopped making them and owns the rights to the Megaman Series. This is the best Keiji can do without being sued by Capcom.
