The devs have decided that they want to push things further though, choosing to develop the game for the upcoming Playstation 4; without waiting for Crytek's permission...
They have asked for the permission, but given the nature of lawyers they have decided to develop Timesplitters Rewind with the PS4 in mind from the beginning, rather than waiting for official confirmation to arrive half way through developing the game.
Michael Hubricka, the project lead for Timesplitters Rewind, isn't worried about the permission:
"We're actually going to go ahead and start development on PlayStation 4. Just because we're pretty confident Crytek's going to say go ahead and do it. But we don't want them saying go ahead and do it when we're caught with our pants down and we're like halfway through development and [then] start something for the PlayStation 4."
It's currently expected that a playable Alpha will be available before the end of the year, letting players on PC give the game a try while it's being worked on. Many of the assets such as maps and weapons will be left until later in the development, to allow a playable version to be released as soon as possible.
