Given various events this year, you could be forgiven for thinking that the games industry is going through some rather hard times.

It seems not everyone is struggling though, as Konami have just announced a new studio opening in Los Angeles to work on a variety of games...

Konami is best known for their Metal Gear Solid series, which is currently waiting on it's latest instalment - Metal Gear Solid V. This new Los Angeles studio will be working on the MGS series, along with "a variety of games".

Hideo Kojima, the creator and director behind Metal Gear Solid, talked about the move during the opening ceremony:

“As gaming takes the world stage as one of the greatest forms of entertainment, it’s only natural for us to expand our operations across the globe,” said Hideo Kojima, Director of Kojima Productions. “And since Los Angeles is ground zero for the best studios, facilities and world-class talent, we are leaning on of these local resources to build an incredible team to create gaming experiences that are just as compelling as any film or television show.”

Konami also work on other popular series, such as Pro Evolution Soccer and Dance Dance Revolution, which this studio may also help to develop.

This new studio is seen as a big step forward for the company, as Konami President Tomoyuki Tsuboi said:

“The new studio will put Kojima Productions in the heart of the west which will benefit future releases as it will introduce new talent and creativity to the development teams.”

Do you think this move will help Konami push into the Western market a bit more? Do you think more development power is needed for Metal Gear Solid V? Tell us below.
