Following on from the milestone is the announcement of the $20 million release, which will give you arenas on lawless planets to flex your FPS needs...
The shooter aspect isn't new; the AMA that Chris Roberts, lead developer of Star Citizen, held almost a year ago mentioned the fact that there would be boarding parties for larger ships, including combat.
The inclusion of entire planets for this however shows that the game could be putting a lot more work into the shooting mechanics; a curious focus given the entire universe that will be created alongside it, with most of the action and population.
Parallels will be drawn between this stretch goal and Dust 514 - CCP's planet based first person shooter. Many people are drawing comparisons between EVE Online and Star Citizen - both pride themselves on their large, massive space universes, and now it seems both are adding FPS elements.
There's enough room in the market for both games though, and with EVE Valkyrie now in full development, CCP have something unique up their sleeves.
Star Citizen is gaining money at a rapid pace, and will soon stop revealing new content; after the $21 million mark, all further content will have to be thought of first!
