Mental asylums are scary places. Abandoned mental asylums are even scarier. Abandoned mental asylums filled with killers and ghosts are presumably terrifying. And so we see the logic of Shinji Mikami, the oft-named father of horror.
A new trailer has been released in preparation for The Evil Within's showing at the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) on Thursday, giving us a horrific insight into what to expect from this back to basics horror…
Shinji Mikami was the original creator of the Resident Evil and Dino Crisis series before they took a nosedive, and he is looking to get the genre back to its roots, putting the horror back in to survival horror.
The trailer shows Detective Sebastian Castellanos and his partner entering the abandoned asylum after responding to a distress call from another unit.
It’s safe to say that not is all as it seems in the asylum, with all manner of supernatural ghoulies and cleaver weaving psychopaths. All they need is a clown in there to make my nightmare complete.
Mikami said in an interview earlier today that he is most definitely not targeting the Call of Duty market with this one, weapons will be at a premium and the player will find themselves relying on stealth and trapping to survive.
Check out the new trailer below, a word of warning if you’re of a squeamish disposition though!
What did you think of the trailer, do you think this looks like survival horror going back to what made it scary again?
The Evil Within is expected sometime in 2014 on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
