From the looks of the support Star Citizen has garnered with it’s crowdfunding campaign, people are still very much supporting the project.
Creator Chris Roberts has announced that the game has now hit $19 million and he has no plans to stop there…
In a “Letter from the Chairman”, Roberts reveals what goals have been unlocked with the $19 million benchmark:
“- Know your foe with a Jane’s Fighting Ships style manual free in PDF form to all pledgers.
- Manage Space Stations – Players will compete to own and operate a limited number of space stations across the galaxy.
- RSI Museum will air monthly, with a new game featured each time!”
The next stretch goal will be $21 million dollars and for that you’ll unlock the Salvage Mechanic allowing you to hunt for secrets and valuables in FPS or in flight. With it you can “discover the secrets of the ancient Hadesians, locate valuable components and cargo… or go down in history as the first to make contact with an entirely new alien race!”
Apparently some “Citizens” have asked Chris if $21 million will mark the end point for the campaign, to which he has responded, no. One reason given is that to even reach $20 million the campaign will have to hit $23 million in order to cover all the overheads and freebies they’ll be sending out. According to Roberts, the most important reason why this won’t be the end is that with more funds more content can be added to the game.
