Battlefield 4 is nearly upon us, and the ‘beta’ goes live for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 owners in just six days, for those of you who are Battlefield 3 Premium owners - or unlucky enough to have picked up a copy of Medal of Honor: Warfighter. The rest of us will have to wait three more days, until the the 4th, to experience DICE’s chaotic online FPS. Was three days worth it, Warfighter owners?

The beta will be running until October 15th, and will give you the opportunity to try out EA’s much-hyped ‘Levolution’ dynamic battlefield tech on the games Siege of Shanghai map. We’ve got a new video discussing the release of the beta and how it will help with the smooth release of the game…

The much-anticipated beta does certainly look like a demo to us, coming so late into the day as it is; Warfighter owners who purchased the game to get beta access have the right to feel aggrieved. For reference, the original Battlefield 1942 demo was available to all on 28th August 2002, two weeks before the game’s eventual release on 10th September.

Patrich Bach, executive producer on Battlefield 4 said that “Even if we’re doing it quite late we still have the opportunity to do some tweaks, and of course we want to get feedback not only from the beta but from the actual game when it’s on market.”

“We have a history of following up with the game months and months after release. To us it’s an ongoing service.”

On the topic of no beta being available for the next-gen consoles, Bach said that it’s “a problem we cannot solve, we wish people had next-gen consoles earlier so they could participate in the beta as well. We will apply all the data we get onto the next-gen consoles though. The cool thing with next-gen consoles will be that it will be even easier to do update, we can just push it straight out to them.”
