It's the announcement that fans of Deus Ex have been waiting for; confirmation from Eidos Montreal that it will bring the series to the next generation of consoles.
In a blog post from head of Eidos Montreal David Anfossi last night, it was confirmed that the studio is working on a new and ambitious project for the franchise …
Deus Ex: Universe, it turns out, is not a single game, but instead will be an “ongoing, expanding and connected game world built across a generation of core games” to “deliver a deep conspiracy that will span several connected Deus Ex games, creating a more immersive and richer experience than ever before”. And games wont be the only part of Eidos' vision;
“Deus Ex: Universe will include PC and console games, but also additional Deus Ex games and experiences available in other media such as tablets, smartphones, books, graphic novels, etc“
Along with the announcement, Anfossi's blog post contained this rather stunning piece of concept art from Eidos' next-gen Deus-Ex game, showing the “trans-human segregation” that will be “a backdrop to our vision for the next Deus Ex.
“It represents a "ghetto-city' voluntarily built in order to separate the classes. The people in this segregated class have reshaped their environment, nostalgic for their ideal of Cyber Renaissance. This dark and dystopian vision sets the tone for things to come in Deus Ex.”
It all sounds pretty exciting, and should be a welcome piece of news to Deus Ex fans, many of whom were left angry when the most recent delivery in the Deus Ex series was an episodic mobile game.
The post also confirmed a release date for Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut Edition, which will be launched in Europe on October 25th for PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U.
