Retail giant Amazon appears to have leaked a release date for hotly anticipated RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Although Amazon is not known for its reliable release dates, the leaked date puts the launch of developer CD Projekt RED’s new game in a prime spot at the start of Autumn…
The release date has been given as 30th September 2014. Since this happens to be the last day of Q3, the date seems a little on the suspect side. Chances are it is merely acting as a placeholder date; a rough estimate on the part of the retail website as to when the much anticipated open world RPG will be available to gamers. The release dates for the previous two Witcher games both had late Spring or Early Summer launches, with The Witcher 2 becoming available on May 17th 2011.
On the other hand, a September 30th release would mean the game launching right at the start of the Autumn rush, a prime time of the year for game releases and a period that this year saw the releases of both GTA V and Fifa 14. The end of September, then, would be a plausible time for a big name franchise like The Witcher to launch its latest creation.
So far, the only indication of a release date given by CD Projekt RED is that the game will be launched some time in 2014. With the Amazon “leak” causing speculation amongst the gaming community, we can probably expect to get some kind of statement about it from either the retailer or the developer soon enough.
What do you think of this potential leaked date? Does it sound legitimate to you, or is it just a tantalizing Amazon estimate?
